Everybody will agree that toxic chemicals exposure is bad. It is a well-known fact that paint stripper smell is rather unhealthy. However, it is very important to mention that many people may not even be able to say exactly why they are so harmful for us. Nevertheless, not being good for us, it is obvious that they are bad for our children as well.

When thinking about the most common chemicals that can be found in the home, I would start with perchlorate, found in drinking water, such a vital thing for every human being. In addition, perchlorate can be found due to the consumption of irrigated crops and even milk. As a result, this toxic chemical makes it difficult for the thyroid gland to uptake iodine, controlling hormones needed for the further development (Taggart, 2009). As to the treatment of this poisoning, you should stop using water from the tap, but start drinking only bottled water. In case you have obtained too much toxic chemical, you should immediately consult a doctor.

The second toxic chemical is the BPA, or Bisphenol A, that can be found in polycarbonate plastic; for example, in various canned foods and drinks. It can cause various problems, such as birth defects; different problems with health and hormone disruptor as well (Taggart, 2009). To prevent any poisoning people are advised to reduce the use of this chemical and in case you don’t stop using it, don’t forget to use it carefully.

The third toxic chemical is acetone, which is found in nail enamel remover, dishwashing liquids and detergents. When people inhale this dangerous chemical, this may lead to the mouth or throat dryness; nausea, dizziness, slurred speech, etc. Besides, our central nervous system (CNS) may be influenced a lot (Cdc.gov). To prevent this you are advised to buy things that contain less toxic chemical and try to be “greener” (Taggart, 2009).

So, people know that there are a number of toxic chemicals, causing health problems, which are used in the home; however, they still keep on using them. To prevent these problems is only possible by avoiding using these dangerous chemicals. However, when being careful the risk of poisoning is reduced a lot. Besides, people should try to buy only less toxic products, and remember to be aware of the environmental dangers.
