Why it is Necessary for the Leader to Model Restraint

In our paper we are going to answer the question why it is essential for the leader to model restraint and to avoid being a verbal or physical aggressor.First of all it should be mentioned that today, the word leader received several interpretations: the man who got ahead in the competition, the one most people believe to, a person successful in life, who knows how to organize people, who has the popularity of any group, the leader of the state and so on.

But, first of all, the leader is a man who has learned to control, motivate and guide himself to meet his goals and objectives.

The art of communication is very important for every leader. A man arrogant, conceited and self-loving can not be a leader by definition. But the leader should not be shy, too. Real leaders are not thinking about themselves, but about the company and employees, they behave in an informal and relaxed manner and therefore form an informal environment around them. There are various ways to show restraint and informality, such as not to have luxury rooms. There are managers of large companies who, like everyone else, stand in line in the dining room and eat at the table with their colleagues.

Leaders successfully performing their functions are able to suppress their hostility and to act effectively, in spite of it. They are able to neutralize their aggressive feelings. Such leaders are characterized by the following features: the ability to talk to people, tact, ability to communicate at any level. Because of their good capacity for interpersonal contacts they are making a solid support in the organization for themselves and their ideas. The leaders know how to restrain their anger and aggression.

A good leader should be restrained and this is an unquestionable fact. Even at the most difficult and bad times, he can reassure the people of his confidence and composure. He speaks softly and gently, avoiding physical and verbal aggression, no matter what prevails around the passions. At conferences and negotiations the secret of his success is in advance, painstaking preparation. A good leader is possessed of the capabilities to set up himself, that is, to block unpleasant thoughts and think only positive side of things to come.

It should be said that emotional balance should be manifested in the supervision of the leader for his emotional displays. Any verbal or physical aggression should be avoided. The relationship between a manager and his subordinates should be smooth, business and do not depend on personal sympathies and sentiments of his own. The emotional balance affects the emotional well-being of subordinates. Negative emotional outburst from the leader may reduce confidence in subordinates, the consequence of this would be a reduction in their business activity. Employees will have to contend with their own feelings, rather than working problems. Emotional imbalance can be detrimental to the image of the leader in the eyes of business partners. But the constant suppression of negative emotional responses, restraining them can result in unpleasant consequences for the individual – the neuroses and psychosomatic diseases developing on their basis, such as, for example, hypertension or gastric ulcer. Therefore, the manager should pay special attention to the means of emotional release. Relaxation can occur during exercise, socializing with friends and loved ones, entrainment with all sorts of hobbies. In Japan, the mannequins depicting superiors are broken for the emotional release. Therefore, in recent years, experts are increasingly talking about the need for a rational organization of managerial work, allocating sufficient time for the leaders’ emotional discharge.

As a conclusion it should be said that in our paper we analyzed why it is necessary for the leader to model restraint and to avoid being a verbal or physical aggressor. Such leaders’ qualities help organizations to be always on top.
