Nowadays, there is a problem in the society considering the issue of sex education. Sex education is the teaching of anatomy and psychology of human reproduction and other aspects of behavior that relate to sex. Considering the modern tendencies and the current situation with the issues related to sex, sex education should be increased in schools in an attempt to curb problems such as teenage pregnancy, sexual diseases and other serious problems.
Sex education is a term used to describe education about sex, sexuality, male and female reproductive, sexual orientation, sex, family planning and contraceptive use, safe sex, reproduction, and more human reproduction-specifically, sexual rights and other aspects of human sexuality in order to achieve a satisfactory sexual health. Sex education has the following characteristics: turns more directly to the teaching-learning content related to sexuality; enhances the informational aspect of this process and may also place emphasis on the formative aspect, which is conducive to the discussion of values, attitudes and prejudices, may also consider the importance of discussing the questions, feelings and emotions; directs more sharply the reformulation of values, attitudes and prejudices as well as the entire “process of liberation”, to the individual level, according to Sex education in America. Basically, sex education lessons are focused on the mechanical side of things – anatomy, physiology, contraception, – experts emphasize, lamenting the fact that children do not tell about the relationship between man and woman and how to build a happy family.
Sex education is indispensable nowadays, because it has certain advantages that can save a person’s life. “Sex education aims to reduce the risks of potentially negative outcomes from sexual behavior, such as unwanted or unplanned pregnancies and infection with sexually transmitted diseases including HIV. It also aims to contribute to young people’s positive experience of their sexuality by enhancing the quality of their relationships and their ability to make informed decisions over their lifetime. Sex education that works, by which we mean that it is effective, is sex education that contributes to both these aims thus helping young people to be safe and enjoy their sexuality.”, as described in Sex education. According to research by U.S. experts, teenagers who receive sex education at school, less likely to experiment with sex at a young age. So, thanks to school education, the boys at 71% less likely to have sexual intercourse under the age of 15 years. The same applies to 59% of schoolgirls.
In adolescence, the search for identity is the central task. It creates conflicts and insecurities. Conflicts with parents are numerous, as they tend to push and shove to make decisions according to their definitions. Young people are highly critical of society and their parents. Strong friendships are created. At this time young people begin to establish relationships. Parents should establish a set of rules by consensus with their children. From that young people can make their own decisions while respecting the values and standards of the people. That is why, it is essential to ensure sexual education in schools, to prepare children further future, to give them truthful information and to consult them if necessary, as described in State Policies on Sex Education in Schools. The information that children may be looking for in the internet considering the sex education, sometimes, is not true or not enough. That is why, it would be better to talk to a specialist and to listen to his information in order to find out more about sex. According to the study, which was attended by 2,019 teenagers aged 15-19 years, the chances that young people will use a condom the first time to have sex 2.77 times increase in if the schools teach sex education lessons. As for girls, exhorting teachers have no influence on their willingness to use contraceptives.
However, some people see disadvantages in sex education. For example, a person may feel forced to try sex in the early age, thinking that he knows everything about it. Good intentions of teachers can turn the situation to promoting sex, and students may misunderstand the whole issue and its importance. “Learning about sex before being mature enough to handle the importance and consequences can sometimes lead to promiscuity and even perversion.”, as described in Disadvantages of sex education. Also, many students will be left with many questions about sex and some will try to explore the issue. As well, considering the religious children in school, this kind of education is not permitted and even offensive. And moreover, some parents prefer to explain children about the issue themselves, on different examples and ready to answer their questions.
All in all, sex education in schools is a contradictive issue, which makes it rather challenging to determine what is best for children and how to avoid problems. Also, many teenagers are still in the power of myths. Besides, some guys and girls think that the very first sexual intercourse in life can not cause pregnancy, etc.
