Research Proposal: How is “Shyness” Experienced in the Workplace?

Nowadays many people experience “Shyness” in the workplace. Shyness in the workplace can lead to significant inefficiencies. The fact is that it can be effectively solved, and it must be recognized and embraced. Recent studies on the prevalence of shyness in modern industrialized countries show that approximately half of adults identify themselves as shy in one way or another.

With regard to the efficiency and effectiveness of all types of jobs, the presence of shyness issues in such a large percentage of the workforce, raises serious concerns.

The difference between these two is that an introvert feels happy to stand alone and actually prefers that way. However, a modest man, wants to communicate with others, but can not because of the lack of personal confidence and appropriate social skills. As well, at work many people are shy because they are afraid of something that they are not able to perform, as well of the relationships with the boss. Many people have become shy at work in order to save their workplaces, as when the crisis has come, many people try to become almost “invisible” not to attract attention and to work calmly, as stated in Shyness.

Shyness victims are in a rather disadvantaged in all aspects of a job search and career workplace. This happens because they can not finish with those who may not be as qualified, but who nevertheless have more poise, a private charm, confidence and practical understanding of how office politics works. Some people are able to adapt to the situation and they can be brave when they need it. Others prefer to be shy instead of showing their skills and experience. Shyness sufferers can expect, unfortunately, the experience more than the average size of the unemployment, underemployment, employment in jobs that require less skill than they have and the longer term without improvement or advancement, compared with their non-shy peers. Some employers consider shy people as those employees that do not now a lot, and who do not want to show if they know something. Also, it may be considered that shy people lack knowledge and skills necessary for the company, and that is why it is not beneficial for an employee to be shy, and for the employer to hire a shy employee. “Shyness is one cause of underemployment, or the state when a person is employed at a rank lower than his capabilities. At work can be used different methods, such as data collection method (survey, interview) and data analysis method. These methods will help people become more united and this will also contribute to the friendly atmosphere at work, and will help people realize that there are common goals within the company.

Business, industry, government and institutions of all types, suffer from shyness in their ranks. Shy people are usually afraid of office colleagues who use their passivity in order to perpetuate self-serving – and in many cases – corrupt behavior. Shy people tend not to talk to staff meetings, etc., although they may have important issues to raise, as well as practical and useful contribution to make. Shy people also have a tendency to depression in productivity and absenteeism.

Characteristic of our society, trends indicate that in the coming years, that the situation becomes even worse, since it forces acting in more and more isolated people from each other, which is pushing employees in the spirit of competition, and we all feel more loneliness. If we continue to sit idly by, many of our children and grandchildren will become hostages of their own shyness. To prevent this, we need to understand what shyness is, and then we can create a fertile environment where people can regain their lost freedom of speech, action and human interaction, as stated in Disadvantages of being shy at work.

Shy people can not bring themselves to go and get acquainted with the liked people, it’s hard to defend shy person’s views in a dispute with his superiors. Certainly, each person knows someone who lacks self-confidence, who is calm and shy. This may be the hero of a movie actor or a colleague. Paying attention to exactly how this person talks, analyzing his behavior and trying to learn from his manner of speaking, can be seen the real situation where this person lives and what surrounds him.

Shy people are scared and struggling to avoid public appearances. This may also show how hard it is to work for a shy person and how challenging it is to be a shy person.

Today, there are many disadvantages for people who are shy at work. “A shy person is likely to be the one who diligently works and strives for a quiet life rather than being put in an awkward situation. In the modern world shyness is unacceptable. Shy workers do not attract employers and it is weird if the workers are shy. It should be said that shyness at work has to be avoided and people have to choose their behavior at work. Shyness, as a result, is not beneficial for anyone- employees are afraid, employers- will not hire shy people. Nowadays, it is essential to overcome shyness at work in order to provide better conditions at the workplace and to ensure the employer that an employee has perspectives.
