Relationship Between Work and Dignity

To begin with it should be noted that nowadays many people consider that there are “dirty” jobs and people, who work on this dirty jobs considered as second class citizens. (1) THESIS: In my opinion, people should respect all professions, because every profession is important to our society and every job contributes to the development and healthy functioning of our society.

(2) It should be noted that there are a lot of jobs, where people do not feel that they belong there. For example, dishwasher, cleaner, garbage collector – all these jobs are considered as unworthy of respected members of our society. As a result, many people that work on such jobs feel dissatisfied and consider their jobs as temporary, but not permanent. Also it can be said that in several states authorities have to significantly increase salary for these kinds of jobs, because people do not want to work on such jobs and think that it is better to be unemployed than have such kind of job.

(3) I think that differences between work and dignity can be explained in such way. On the one hand, work is a way to earn the living. As a rule people try to work in the area, where they are best. The work reflects the level of education of a person, his skills and experience. On the other hand, dignity – is the inherent value and the right for respect, which every person has. This concept is related with self-esteem. As a fact, dignity means the behavior of other people to a person with respect. In other words, work helps people to earn the living, in turn, dignity considers special work that is respected by others.

(4) In my opinion people should respect all professions and do not divide people into first and second class. If garbage collectors disappear from our streets – we will all feel at once the sense of smell, and if rocket constructors (nothing personal) will disappear, we will stop flying into space, but life on earth will continue. Moreover, it is no matter how developed our education or scientific and technical progress – humanity is still in need of jobs that are associated with physical labor. I presume that if a person likes to collect garbage – he feels comfortable and likes to help people, why should he be considered as a second class person? He is the same member of society as everyone else and has his own dignity.

(5) I think that nowadays people are willing to put up with the fact to be independent very often. It should be noted that as an example of choice with dignity can be named the work of freelancers. This way people choose the most comfortable way of performing their work, deny some of their dreams, expectations and every daily visits to work as well as frequent communication with their colleagues. People, who choose to work as freelancers prefer to be independent and organize their time by themselves. In my opinion, people are willing to put up with the fact to be independent as much as they can afford it.

(6) To sum it up I would like to say that in my opinion, people should respect all professions, because every profession is important to our society and every job contributes to the development and healthy functioning of our society. Moreover, there are a lot of jobs, where people do not feel that they belong there. These jobs are considered as unworthy of respected members of our society. As a result, many people that work on such jobs feel dissatisfied.

I presume that work helps people to earn the living, in turn, dignity considers special work that is respected by others. However, people should respect all professions and do not divide people into first and second class. Very often, to be independent, many people deny some of their dreams, expectations and every daily visits to work as well as frequent communication with their colleagues.
