Modern technologies, undoubtedly, not only helpful in our life but also is a way to get more profit. But technology is not always about making money. Sometimes the initiative that conducts technological invention is based on helping people or bettering society. Using virtual reality technology to work with the autistic would be a great example.

Another example of such technology is dolphin therapy – treatment with the help of dolphins. A wish to captivate water space, to touch a dolphin, probably, even to sweep on it has subdued many people. For someone it is last chance… Who of us does not dream to swim for a while in a pool with a company of dolphins? By the way, this unusual entertainment is not just a way rest but also a non conventional method of psychotherapy. Unlike simple swimming with dolphins, this therapy is not entertainment!

At first, this technology was used in order to help people that were suffered of depression. They did not take any medicines and were swimming with dolphins about one and a half hour a day during two weeks. Another group did not take part in this experiment and were treated by other psychotherapeutic methods. In 14 days all patients felt better, especially those ones who were swimming with dolphins.

This kind of communication – with dolphins – is curative. Everyone knows it. As about a useful effect of dolphin therapy, so here are some aspects which are really curious. Professor Michael Reveler remarked: “Dolphins are very intellectual animals, they are capable to difficult interactions, and regard people positively”. Katherine Ellison notes “they have fascinated humans since ancient times with their extraordinary grace and intelligence, and those seemingly frozen smiles” (Ellison). Dr. Lain Ryrie says that “Animals, and especially mammals, can favorably change our social dynamic” (BBC news).

The researchers say that such components as aesthetic pleasure from swimming and emotional dialogue with a mammal possess healing properties. Some scientists have assumed that the ultrasound which is let out by dolphins as a part of their echolocation system, also has favorable influence on the person. Thus, animal steels the excellent tool in treatment of depression and other mental diseases.

The researchers from “Henry Spink Foundation” convinced that this type of therapy is not a treatment itself. They note: “Samples of blood were analyzed before and after the therapy, results showed that after swimming with dolphins there is a change of hormones, endorphins and enzymes as well as T-cells, how this is possible is still not well understood” (Henry Spink).

Inherently dolphin therapy is a complex influence on organism. It develops of the ultrasonic waves radiated by a dolphin, moving activity, staying in the sea water possessing certain curative properties. And, of course, powerful psychological effect. The dolphin induces the person in pool to dialogue: joint swimming, games, nonverbal information interchange. And as a result we get so effective and positive influence which the advanced medicines can not give. Result of such dialogue is the spirit on the positive emotions, calming and making active effects, the most powerful sincere discharge or “catharsis” effect. Dolphins can change force and intensity of sound signals. For them this process more than natural. Without ultrasonic waves they simply could not find out things under water. They use thin hearing and echolocation there. Water perfectly transfers sounds, therefore sight is secondary. The same strong is psychological influence of a dolphin on the patient. Dolphins are exclusively sociable, they are inquisitive and kind. The patient in pool does not feel danger, moreover – dialogue with a dolphin gives feeling of safety. The big role is played by interest to a clever and strong animal, admiration of it, and not only force and dexterity, but also moral qualities. Joint performance of exercises shows that the dolphin can be the sensitive partner, assisting and supporting. All together it destroys mentality barriers, incorrect psychological installations. Nowadays, this technology becomes a business and it is not a good thing, of course.

Katherine Ellison in her article about dolphin therapy underlines that this kind of business “has been booming, fueled in part by the rapid growth in diagnoses of childhood mental disorders such as autism. Desperate parents in search of cures have flown to the facilities, as if to a seaside Lourdes, when all else has failed” (Ellison). No doubts, it is a sad fact but it is life.

There are many organizations which offers dolphin treatment all over the world: in USA, Australia, Israel, Mexico, Ukraine and so on. A lot of them are expensive, but some are nonprofit ones. As an example of nonprofit association we may name Island Dolphin Care. They offer some treatment programs “to help children with special needs and their families who are dealing with developmental and/or physical disabilities, emotional challenges, and critical, chronic or terminal illness” (Island Dolphin Care).

It is understandable that the effect of such treatment may be unpredictable and it depends on the individuality but generally it seems to be a huge benefit to people who suffers from different mental diseases or so. I think, in this case a really huge meaning has a process of communication with animals itself. It forces sick children to open for changes in a process of dialogue with animal. Often emotions after such interaction are really indescribable and children start to show creative abilities. But the most important thing is that the child from dialogue with a dolphin gets a feeling of pleasure and harmony. It is known that more often children laugh and charged by positive energy when they see something ridiculous, for example, clowns in circus. But the dolphin is not the clown. The child becomes happy and starts to laugh because the happiness hormones are allocated. Dialogue with dolphins helps the child to feel pleasure of life. An this is why this technology is very helpful exactly for children who have suffered from accidents, the critical incidents and who were taken as hostages. In 97 % of cases dolphins help also to children who suffer autism, not capable to come into contact with associates. Besides, thanks to this technique it is possible to correct defeats of head and a spinal cord, depression, a syndrome of chronic weariness, a muscular adynamy and a delay of intellectual development. Interaction with clever mammals helps even to start talking to children who have problems with speech development. Game with dolphins, desire to sweep at an animal’s back is a powerful stimulating effect for the child, forcing to struggle with illness. Dolphins well influence not only children, but also pregnant women: research of physicians have shown that swimming with a dolphin before sorts facilitates fights. Sometimes such contact is able to change person’s outlook – the relation to yourself, surrounding people and the world itself, to become a starting point at a new stage of personal development. Scientists consider that dolphins are able to find necessary contact with sick people by mutual dialogue, helping them to adapt for world around. The most interesting fact is that dolphins easily distinguish sick people from healthy, showing to them much bigger interest, as though understanding that they need their help. There is also an opinion, that driving on dolphins considerably increases a thickness of biological aura of the person. Besides, the biofield not only extends, but also is clarified — dark negative tone disappears from it. The dolphin feels that it is visited by the person to whom the help is necessary and tries to render it. This technology has future without any doubts. To my mind, it may be improved by finding new nonprofit organizations that will offer such kind of treatment to all who needs it. It is clearly, that any association have financial needs, but in this case the treatment results may be the best motivating factor to make investments and donations. Dolphins have an anatomic smile. Children think that animals smile to them. Adults hardly notice it, but children…

It is unconditionally pleasant to incorporate with the nature, especially, when it is ready to help. It is necessary to hope, that an improving influence of these animals on a human body will be appreciated, and the technology of dolphin therapy will be involved in the medical programs financed from the state budgets.
